Psychologist Joseph Boland

Dr. Joseph Boland

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Boland has a general psychotherapy practice treating children, adolescents and adults. He has been in private practice since 1988 and specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Family Psychotherapy.

Education & Experience

Dr. Boland graduated Summa Cum Laude (top 2%) from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981 and received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 1987.

He completed his psychology internship/residency at the Medical College of Georgia and his postdoctoral supervision at G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia, SC.

He is certified by the Board of Governors of the American Psychological Association College of Professional Psychology in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders. 

Personal Life

Dr. Boland has been married to Dr. Janet U. Boland since 1986. Dr. Janet Boland is also a licensed psychologist. They have two adult children.

Jonathan was on the Swim/Dive team and graduated with five school records, including the school record for the fastest 100 backstroke and the fastest 100 butterfly in the history of the University of South Carolina Swim program. He also had three school records in relays and went to the Olympic Trials in the summer of 2016. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in Pre-med from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina (USC) in May of 2017. He then attended and graduated from medical school at MUSC, the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is currently completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville.

Katherine was valedictorian of her high school class at Cardinal Newman High School and then graduated from USC Honors College Summa Cum Laude in Pre-med. She then graduated from MUSC medical school in Charleston and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Tulane. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver. She is currently a faculty member for the Department of Gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina.

The Bolands enjoy travel and sports. Dr. Boland's father lives with them after retiring from a full career in the U.S. Air Force.  

Counselor Oluwantoyin Okei

Dr. Oluwantoyin Okei, LPC-A

Licensed Professional Counselor

Dr. Okei is focused on the practice of treating children, adolescents and adults using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reflective Therapy in Individual, Couples and Behavioral Family Therapy.

Education & Experience

Dr. Oluwatoyin Okei is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate of the South Carolina State Board Examiners for Counselors, Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists. Dr. Okei is also a Nationally Certified Counselor.

She obtained her Doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina in 2017 from the Counselor Education and Supervision program. Dr. Okei received a Master of Science in Education degree with a major in Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, in 2003.

She works part-time as an Adjunct Faculty at Webster University, Columbia Metropolitan campus, where she was awarded the Faculty of the Year in June 2019.

Psychologist Michael Travisano

Dr. Michael Travisano, Psy.D.

Psychology Postdoctoral

Dr. Travisano (or Dr. T. for short) helps individuals across the lifespan with a variety of mental health concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, anger issues, general life stressors, and stage of life issues.

Education & Experience

Dr. T. graduated with a Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D.) from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2021. Throughout his graduate training, he has done therapy and psychological testing with children, adolescents, and adults of various life experiences and treatment goals.

Dr. Travisano is currently completing his postdoctoral fellowship at the office of Dr. Joseph Boland and Associates.

Approach & Specialization

He specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which examines how one’s thoughts and behaviors impact their mood, symptoms, stress level, and general functioning.

Dr. T. utilizes a variety of CBT-based coping skills to help his clients break these patterns and achieve their individualized therapeutic goals.

Board-certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Jacobs is a general psychiatrist who cares for adult patients who desire treatment for mental health disorders and life stressors. She would like the opportunity to work with you in achieving your treatment goals.

Education & Experience

Dr. Vernetta Jacobs has been a board-certified psychiatrist (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology) since 2003. She has experience treating patients in a variety of settings and a range of psychiatric conditions, from mild stress disorders to severe psychiatric illnesses.

Receptionist Devin


Devin, a recent graduate from the University of South Carolina, is setting his sights on a bright future by pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. His passion for this field is not only evident but deeply rooted in a desire to make a significant impact on individuals. Devin's research interest aims at exploring the intricate connections between physical health and the myriad stressors that affect African Americans. During his free time he likes to paint and draw different landscape scenes.
